These are excellent! They travel quite well and are even tastier when left in the car to chill during the winter time. They are also awesome when car travelling across the Deep South and fresh green food is hard to come by!

Please be aware that these bars have ALFALFA that has a proven Toxin (L-canavanine: this is an analog of an amino-acid that 'tricks' your body into forming dysfunctional DNA!). I have been using this mix for years and have tried many others. This is by far the best mix out there for chocolate chip cookies, it has the right texture, it doesn't taste artificial in any way and the combination of brown sugar and butter along with the ghirardelli chips is fantastic. I don't even make them from scratch because this is just as good and easier (at least to me) and I always get compliments on them when I bake some up to share. Recently all my stores stopped carrying this and I was very upset. I ordered from a bulk by the case place online but Amazon has the same thing for almost $10 less and free shipping, I am thrilled!

Just a quick comment on this very good and easy to prep cookie mix. These cookies do not have the same appearance during baking that tollhouse cookies from scratch have and it's easy to think that they need to bake longer than the instructions suggest (when removed at appointed time, they seem too soft to be considered fully baked). Trust the instructions and not your instincts...soft cookies firm up nicely on cooling, while overbaking results in disappointingly hardened cookies.

I'm a bit of a cooking snob and love the very labor-intensive but rewarding Choc. Chip cookie recipe from Cooks' Illustrated. Seriously- it's dangerous (to your waistline). What elevates that recipe above all others is the toffee base you make with browned butter. If you have the time and patience, you'll be rewarded.
So I was apprehensive when a co-worker was selling this Ghirardelli cookie as a school fund-raiser for her child at $4.50/box. But I've enjoyed Ghirardelli's triple chocolate brownie mix (no scratch recipe comes close) and I owed this friend a favor. With the exception of the browned butter toffee notes of the C.I. "scratch" recipe, these cookies (the large size batch) were nearly identical with a fraction of the labor. I had to fight off the kids for a second cookie.
I bought this mix on Amazon at $33/case with free Super Saver Shipping and now it's down to ~$27/case of 12. Time to buy another case... then hit the gym.

I love the flavor of these dark chocolate crispy wafers! I love the flavor so much, that I often will drink a cup of coffee and savor one or two of these treats when I need a quick pick me up. Sometimes I break off a small bite-size piece of cookie and place it in my mouth, then quickly sip my hot coffee, allowing the wafer to melt, and the two flavors to meld into a lovely mocha blend.
This morning I was aghast at finding tiny intruders ruining my mid-morning break. Granted, these interlopers did not willingly join me in my private tasting, they had died long (?) ago during the baking process of these Famous Chocolate Wafers. This morning, not only did I encounter the lovely mocha blend flavor on my tongue, but also small chunks of what I initially thought might be coconut. IT WAS NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have fond memories of making a cream cake with my grandmother using these wafers. Simply stack them in a row, putting creme between each cookie and covering the finished row of cookies with cream, so that it looks like a huge cream log. Make sure they are stacked sideways ///// like this, so that when you cut the cake it has a beautiful design in the middle. Cool the cake in the fridge for several hours, then cut and eat. Very delicious, simple, and light!

Very pleased with the hard to find wafers - arrived quickly and very well packed - not a broken one in any of the boxes!!! My family loved the desserts made with them over the holidays and I was completely satisfied with the transaction.
